Political Outreach Committee
The primary goal of the AIA/LA Political Outreach Committee (POC) is to review and influence government policies and regulations pertaining to issues that impact the built and natural environments. To help implement this goal, the POC works closely with additional AIA/LA committees, including: the AIA/LA Committee on the Environment (COTE), the AIA/LA Urban Design Committee (UDC), the AIA/LA Building Performance & Regulations Committee (BPR) and the newly formed AIA/LA Practice Committee and the AIA/LA Historic Resources Committee.
The AIA/LA POC meets regularly on the second Tuesday of each month at the Chapter office and all AIA/LA members in good standing are welcome to attend. By contributing pro-actively to the discussion you will help the committee develop a legislative agenda for the Chapter, which will form the thesis of our annual AIA/LA Legislative Day at City Hall. In addition to scheduling meetings with Councilmembers, planning deputies, the Mayor's office and numerous General Managers and Directors of the vast array of City departments, the POC works closely with key staff members in the Los Angeles Department of Building & Safety, LADOT, the Planning Department, the CRA/LA, DWP, Metro and Bureau of Engineer/ Public Works.
The POC is Co-chaired by Li Wen, AIA (Design Director, Gensler) and Ric Abramson, AIA (Principal, Workplays Studio).

On behalf of AIA Los Angeles and the Political Outreach Committee, I encourage you to participate at the upcoming AIA/LA Legislative Day at City Hall on October 2, 2008.
As an architect & design professional providing the leadership to improve the built environment, this is your opportunity to meet directly with Council members, legislative & planning deputies, the office of the Mayor, City Planners and Commissioners. The chapter is currently scheduling numerous meetings throughout the day at Los Angeles City Hall on October 2, 2008.
Please contact Will Wright at will@aialosangeles.org if you are interested in participating in these meetings and please provide your contact information and the council district (in which you reside).
Also, please specify your window of availability for that date so that we can program meetings that best fit your schedule.
The Chapter will do its best to accommodate your schedule. However, there is a mandatory briefing meeting prior to legislative day upon which we will review each of the 2008 issue briefs that will be presented. That briefing meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 30th (6pm) at AIA/LA Chapter office (3780 Wilshire Blvd., Ste. 800 LA, CA 90010)
The AIA/LA Political Outreach Committee meets monthly to develop the legislative agenda for the Los Angeles Chapter and schedules meetings directly with LA City Councilmembers & the Mayors Office during the annual Grassroots Legislative Day. The Committee serves to provide a resource to the City on a wide range of issues. This committee is open to all AIA members in good standing. Each year, the annual AIA/LA Legislative Day affords AIA members the opportunity to meet with City Leaders to discuss issues regarding architecture and design in the Los Angeles Community. Many productive meetings are held between AIA/LA Architects and LA City Officials and the Political Outreach Committee follows up on the results of these meetings throughout the year.
