The 2018 AIA|LA Architectural Photography Awards Jury is composed of: Joey N. Shimoda, FAIA & FIIDA, Marcia Prentice, and Minh T.

An accomplished and award-winning architect, with a heightened sense of aesthetic balance; a self-taught photographer, whose work appears in international publications as well as books; and an art director with prestigious clients and an extensive Instagram following—these are the individuals who comprise the 2018 AIA|LA Architectural Photography Awards (APA) Jury.

Joey N. Shimoda, FAIA, FIIDA – Chief Creative Officer, Shimoda Design Group

Joey N. Shimoda earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree from California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. In the early years of his career, Mr. Shimoda has worked with Morphosis Architects, Peter Wilson of Buros von Bolles + Wilson in London, and Frank Gehry and Associates.

On Valentine’s Day 2000, he founded Shimoda Design Group. A studio founded on a multi-disciplined platform that seeks to bring quality design, innovation and technical excellence in projects of every scale. In addition to the core staff of fifteen, the studio has the ability to assemble an optimum team of design professionals according to each clients needs. They include planners, landscape architects, graphic designers, lighting consultants and marketing professionals. Currently the firm has ongoing projects in Brooklyn, and Los Angeles.
Clients include: Rolex, Mikimoto, Viacom, Tishman Speyer, Bad Robot Productions, TOMS shoes, Harwood International, Worthe Real Estate Group, EVOQ Properties, Equity Commercial Properties, Bloomberg and Steelcase.

In January 2013, Mr. Shimoda was named Designer of the Year by Contract Magazine. In January 2014, Mr. Shimoda was elevated to the College of Fellows for the American Institute of Architects. In 2015, Mr. Shimoda was elevated to the College of Fellows for the International Interior Design Association. Less than 20 Designers in the United States share the distinction of Fellow as both an architect and interior designer.

Marcia Prentice

Marcia Prentice is an American photographer whose style captures the intersection of emotion and design in the home. Starting her career less than six years ago as a self-taught photographer with a background in interior design, she combined both of her sensibilities and built a career as an interior photographer working with designers, home brands, and media. Marcia has established her niche of photographing the homes of creatives with her unique intimate approach, and has photographed over 100 homes of designers and artists.

Her work has been featured in such publications as Architectural Digest, Casa International (Beijing), Vanity Fair (Italia), Grazia UK, and the new Freunde von Freunden book. She has hosted an interior photography workshop for designers and given a lecture at ESAD Matosinhos College of Art and Design in Portugal.

Marcia just recently released her first book of the homes of designers and artists around the world titled, How We Live, published by the prestigious teNeues. She is currently working on her next book project photographing the intimate moments within Italian families from the north to the south of Italy.

Minh T

Minh T is a photographer and art director based in Los Angeles. Trained in architecture and graphic design, his photographic style conjures up a world of timelessness, simplicity, nature, architecture, and escapism that has earned him a large following on social media.

His work has been published and seen on sites including Cereal, Luxe, Adobe and West Elm. His instagram @thismintymoment was recently awarded “Best Individual Instagram” by Surface Magazine.
