AIA|LA & BCA Small Business Inclusion & Procurement Reform Roundtable
Please join us Wednesday, September 26 (2:30pm to 4:00pm) for a roundtable discussion with the City of Los Angeles Bureau of Contract Administration about how to achieve greater inclusion for small businesses throughout the region. This roundtable will serve as a forum to share ideas and recommendations with each other across a multi-disciplinary perspective.
We will also be reviewing a draft set of recommendations (see attached) that have developed vis-a-vis a set of ad-hoc working group meetings, which have been guided by the leadership of Karen Compton – Principal, A3K Consulting, LLC. Ms. Compton moderated a panel discussion on “Achieving Business Inclusion In Government Contracting” during the 2nd annual AIA|LA ENCOMPASS conference, which facilitated commitment from the participants to establish a set of recommendations on what reforms are needed to level the playing field for entry, as well as, ensure that small business can afford the risks associated with working with public agencies.
The working group identified numerous issues that impact small, minority and disadvantaged business enterprises in one or more public agencies.
The two most compelling new ideas put forward:
- Collaborative sourcing that allows agencies to share S/M/W/DVBE information
- Approved Mentor-Protege programs in lieu of Good Faith
Other public agencies we’d like to collect input from include:
- FHWA Federal Highways (if local hiring, DBE, etc. are topics)
- State of California (i.e. Caltrans)
- County of Los Angeles
- LAUSD
- LACCD
- METRO
- Metrolink
- Transit service providers (i.e. LADOT)
- LAWA
- LADWP
- Port of Los Angeles
- Port of Long Beach
- Cities (i.e. Los Angeles, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Culver City, Long Beach, Inglewood, etc.)
- Construction industry
- Consultant industry
- Elected official(s) (champions for small business or inclusivity)
