CBC 2016 to 2019 – Significant Changes to Fire Protection, Life Safety, and Accessibility

This virtual webinar will identify the key changes to the 2019 California Building and Fire Codes, as it related to fire protection, life safety and accessibility. For each code change we will discuss the type of change (i.e., addition, clarification, deletion or modification), updated code section, and the significance of the code change (i.e., impact on projects with examples). The topics discussed will include requirements for high-rise buildings, means of egress, fire-rated separations, occupant load factors, fire protection systems, and accessibility.

Speaker Bios:
Donald J. Wood, EIT – Consultant, Jensen Hughes, Inc.
Donald is a Consultant based in Jensen Hughes’ Los Angeles office. Donald is experienced in fire/life safety planning and accessibility consulting in a variety of vertical markets, including commercial mixed-use, residential, healthcare and institutions. His work includes plan review and inspection of new and existing buildings for compliance with local building and fire codes, drafting fire protection reports to develop applicable building and fire safety criteria for projects and negotiating with state and local AHJs.
Donald received his Master of Science in Fire Protection Engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and is a member of the Society of Fire Protection Engineers (SFPE).
Kelly Hang, CASp, ICC, Assoc. AIA – Senior Consultant, Jensen Hughes, Inc.
Kelly is a Senior Consultant based in Jensen Hughes’ Los Angeles office. Kelly has 13 years of experience providing design and ADA consulting services to private and public entities. Her responsibilities include comprehensive project management of ADA projects of all scales such as civic, commercial, institutional, mixed-use and multi-family residential.
As an accessibility consultant, she applies federal regulations, such as ADA, ABA, and Fair Housing Act, as well as state and local accessibility standards including Title 24 of the California Code of Regulations to new construction and to existing or renovated facilities.
Kelly received her Bachelor of Architecture from California College of the Arts. Kelly is a California Certified Accessibility Specialist and an ICC-Certified Accessibility Inspector / Plan Examiner. She is a member of the Certified Access Specialist Institute (CASI) and an Associate of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
