Fullerton Residence Virtual Tour
Learning Units: 1 LU
Join us for AIA|LA’s first virtual residential tour for an intimate and in-depth look of the Fullerton Residence guided by the homeowners and Architect Christopher Mercier.
The Fullerton residence, an extensive remodel project of an original 1950’s ranch style home located in Fullerton California. The scope included a complete make over from foundations up, including complete new facades, new raised reshaped roof and new hardscape & landscape over the entire property. Overall the experience is one where the entire house has been reinvented as a trans-relational environment. An environment where interior and exterior rooms merge as new roof lines cradle and connect, creating an-other notion of a contemporary California indoor-outdoor living.

Learning Objectives:
1) What are trans-relational environments and how do they differ from our current notion of indoor/outdoor space?
2) How can a remodel project become a completely new living experience for its owners?
3) What is the value clients gain from an extensive remodel project over complete new construction?
4) What is a possible opportunity for the future of California Modernism?
(fer): FORM | ENVIRONMENT | RESEARCH
(fer) studio is the design leader in Contemporary Iconic Trans-Relational Architectural and Urban Design solutions. Specializing in creative office, unique restaurants and customized residential projects. Our work focuses on resolving the needs and celebrating the opportunities of each client through the creation of an specific architectural design solution. This results in an iconic individual architectural form/narrative, specific to that client’s identity within the built environment. The studio is founded on premise that to do this, three basic conditions must be studied and applied. In fact, it’s impossible to develop an appropriate, accurate and specific architectural design solution without intense consideration of these three conditions.
FORM – The shape or configuration of something. A particular way in which a thing exists or appears.
ENVIRONMENT – The surroundings, circumstances, or conditions (physical/social/cultural/political/economic) by which one is surrounded.
RESEARCH – The systematic and studious inquiry, investigation and experimentation, to establish new conclusions of accepted theories for practical application.
