Ironically, this year’s Q&A with the 2020 AIALA Emerging Practice recipient begins with a look back at a 1921 Frank Lloyd Wright masterpiece. Here then Andre Herrero, AIA, responds the the Presidential Honoree Q&A on behalf of the Emerging Practice Recipient Charlap Hyman & Herrero.

1. Out of your projects, can you select one which you believe has most contributed to the city, how, and… why did you do it?
Our illustrations of various details at the Hollyhock House for its guidebook. It’s an honor to be a part of the way people learn about such an important and inspiring piece of architectural and social history in this city.

2. What’s the best thing a client or community member can say to you?
That the thing you designed looks like it could look no other way.

3. What’s your favorite public place to safe distance in LA right now?
The trails around Lake Hollywood.

4. What’s the best depiction of LA architecture in a movie, Netflix project, video or book and why (if you’re so inclined.)
Lost Highway.

5. What’s on your bucket list design-wise. What’s that dream project.
An opera house.
