Roundtable Discussion: Paul Revere Williams Day Working Group

2020 has forced a re-evaluation for many across the country, from individuals to companies and institutions, in how we all address equity. There has been an open dialogue for years within AEC professions around how to increase inclusivity and representation in our related fields. This dialogue has found new urgency and attention– existing programs, initiatives, and efforts are gaining more traction and finding new support.
How can we maintain and build upon this momentum, and find synergies across efforts to streamline our communications with the broader Southern California community? Paul Revere Williams Day is envisioned as a yearly event series that raises awareness, builds connections, and reinforces our efforts to improve the diversity of our pipeline for AEC professions. This event will bridge across existing programs and initiatives, working to clearly communicate opportunities and provide support to all age groups of students and professionals along their journey to becoming an AEC industry professional.
Jessica Orlando, AIA (Design Manager, AECOM) will share a draft of the Vision and Mission of Paul Revere Williams Day as it is currently developing and seek active involvement from the community to develop a new Working Group that will lead the organization of this yearly event. As a collaboration between the Professional Practice Committee and the JEDI Committee, this Working Group will seek guidance from the AIA Los Angeles Board of Directors and from Architecture for Communities Los Angeles.
This Working Group is open to all Community members who demonstrate:
+ Engagement with professions related to the built environment (architecture, engineering, construction, urban design, etc.).
+ Passion for promoting equity, diversity, and inclusion in educational and professional environments.
+ Commitment to actively participating in a collaborative process to develop and deploy aspects of this event.
