A round-table discussion for Office Re-Entry and the Future of Remote Working. The key topics will include:
+ The Future of Remote Work in Architecture Practice
+ Is remote working the new normal?
+ What are your office’s plans for re-entry? Will your office continue remote working?
+ Have you seen differences in team performance between remote and in-office?
+ Can you describe the differences in client engagement?
+ Can you describe the challenges in marketing and networking remotely?
+ Have you made significant changes to office policies? Will these remain in effect post-pandemic?
+ In your opinion, how will working/collaboration be different post-pandemic?

Moderators:

Lauren Coles, AIA, Senior Associate, CO Architects
Lauren Coles is a senior associate at CO Architects with over 15 years of experience teaming with clients by providing detailed coordination and design excellence for higher education and healthcare projects. Her work includes science & technology and health education facilities, as well as large-scale hospital projects. She joined CO Architects in 2015, after previously working with architectural practices on both the east and west coasts. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from Northeastern University.

 

Jessica Orlando, AIA, Design Manager & Strategist, AECOM
Jessica is a Design Manager + Strategist in AECOM’s Los Angeles office, focused on providing highly integrated design outcomes for Higher Education clients around the globe. She focuses on marrying the delivery of high-quality, data-driven solutions with a customized and highly engaged client management style. She has worked in Southern California for the last five years with distinguished partners such as UC Riverside, UC Irvine, Caltech, San Diego State University, Harvey Mudd College, and many others. Jessica is originally from the Midwest, but has lived and worked in locales across the country. Pasadena is where she and her husband have made their home, but she loves traveling and frequently visits exotic locations from Grand Forks, North Dakota, to Ko Samui, Thailand, for both work and pleasure.

Scott Kelsey, FAIA, Principal, CO Architects
Scott Kelsey, the managing principal of CO Architects, has focused his 40-year architectural career on the planning and design of medical and health sciences, science & technology, healthcare and civic facilities in 23 states and the UK. He is nationally recognized for his expertise in the New American Medical School, where he has developed facilities supporting new models for schools of medicine and health sciences. Scott brings to his work an unparalleled passion for imagining academic environments that support new pedagogies, technologies and scholarly engagement, and he presents regularly on these topics at national forums. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Oregon.

 

Marisa Kurtzman, Architect, LEED AP, Partner, Frederick Fisher and Partners
Marisa brings energy and focus to spearheading Frederick Fisher and Partners’ visioning, programming, planning, and concept design work. A linguist and a “people person,” she loves finding out what makes institutions and organizations tick, and then translating those values and goals into design strategies that are expressive of their distinct identities. Recent projects include the Natural History Museum of LA County’s West-South Expansion, USC’s Iovine and Young Hall, and Crossroads School’s Science Education Building. As one of FF&P’s next generation of partners and a firm believer in equity in the design workplace, Marisa participates in shaping her firm’s progressive hiring practices, outreach initiatives, and office policy implementation. Marisa received her Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, and her Master of Architecture from Yale. Outside of work, she is an active member of the Association for Women in Architecture + Design.

 

Avivah Rapoport, AIA, CDT, LEED AP, Principal, Director of Architecture – HOK
Avivah lead’s HOK’s Los Angeles architecture studio. Her 25 years of experience focuses on complex project types with diverse stakeholders in the civic, healthcare, and higher education market sectors. Leading efforts from the early phases of strategic planning through completion of construction, Avivah is a trusted advisor throughout the life of a project. Avivah’s passion for projects that serve the broader community is complemented by her leadership in local non-profit organizations focused on equitable access to education. She currently serves on the Board of Directors for the ACE Mentor Program of Los Angeles and the Santa Monica Youth Orchestra.

 

Kristina Singiser AIA, LEED AP, DBIA, Managing Principal, HMC Architects
As the managing principal at HMC’s Los Angeles studio, Kristina supports the growth and development of an exceptionally talented team to deliver design excellence to clients. She is an experienced architect with over 20 years of experience specializing in complex higher education projects at universities and colleges throughout California. She has led teams for both new construction and major renovations of multiple project types, including student housing, libraries, science labs, and performing arts centers. As a certified design-build professional, Kristina believes there is tremendous power in the collaborative process between architects, engineers, and contractors to bring the greatest value to a project.
