HGA Architects
At the start of 2020, Cedars-Sinai and HGA began designing a 26-bed adult inpatient unit in the Saperstein Tower to meet the needs of its ever increasing patient population. Shortly after design began, Cedars-Sinai received the largest gift in its history, which enabled the development of an entire pediatric program that would include inpatient and outpatient care, research, surgical, and other clinical specialties including recruitment, branding, marketing, and implementation. With an aggressive opening date of Fall 2022, the project team quickly shifted gears to design a technologically advanced pediatric unit and interactive healing garden, within a challenging space designed in the late 90’s. With the invaluable input from nursing, child life, patient and family advisory, local artists, support staff, and hospital leadership, the project team was able to remain nimble and overcome many unforeseen challenges, paving the way to deliver the landmark facility of Cedars-Sinai Guerin Children’s.
Learning Objectives:
+ Participants will learn how the project team designed a new, technologically advanced pediatric program in a challenging existing space.
+ Participants will learn how the team collaborated with HCAI and authorities having jurisdiction to ensure an expedited and streamlined review process.
+ Participants will learn how the project team shifted from the traditional design process and shifted to a real-time decision-making model.
+ Participants will learn about the exciting donor story, and how Cedars-Sinai engaged with them and multiple stakeholders to develop an all-inclusive, flexible pediatric unit of the future.
