Student Presentations: Healthcare Design

HGA is following LA County guidelines. No one will be required to show proof of vaccination or negative covid tests to attend this event. LA County is currently encouraging mask wearing indoors, but not requiring it.

This month’s AIA Los Angeles Healthcare Committee will feature three presentations from Cal Poly Pomona’s Healthcare and Environmental Architecture Leadership (HEAL) program, the USC School of Architecture Healthcare design graduate studio, and Woodbury University Architecture and Interior Design. This is a great opportunity to engage with students on their real world local projects.

I) Cal Poly Pomona’s Healthcare and Environmental Architecture Leadership (HEAL) program prepares next generation architects to meet the challenges of advanced technology and construction sustainability in healthcare.

II) The USC School of Architecture continued its fourth year with a formal graduate presence of healthcare design. This program combines the rapidly changing world of healthcare medicine, housing design for the frail//vulnerable, and the complications created from COVID-19. It consists skilled nursing units, affordable housing for age 55+, a neighborhood outpatient clinic and exercise facility with a landscape connection to the community.

III) Woodbury School of Architecture is distinguished by a broad range of degrees that address the needs, values, and potential of the built environment. These programs combine to create a holistic school dedicated to advancing the practices of design, the products of design, and the impact of design towards a more equitable and sustainable world. While this program doesn’t have a healthcare specific path, students still demonstrate their interest in adjacent studies.
