B-Rolls: Student Process Work
May 18, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm PDT
FreeYou witnessed our annual 2×8 architecture competition and exhibit organized by the AIA|LA opening day. Now begins the lecture series!!!
B-Rolls is a mini-exhibit celebrating the design process through the sketches, stumbles, and leaps of genius and inspiration that result in a final design; the rough cut magic steps linking the initial flicker of an idea to the final conclusion. Come join us in this great experience!
Often times we view architecture as the finished product, represented through immaculate models and pristine drawings, or as a realized building. B-Rolls: Student Process Work displays the extensive amount of work generated in the process of creating the final product. The sheer amount of work on display lends itself to the layering and misreading of information. The exhibit manifests itself as a palimpsest, where one finds their interest piqued by a piece of information before expanding their research to educate a project.
As opposed to the traditional museum setting, where the attention is drawn to a single piece by isolating it from other content, B-Rolls: Student Process Work favors quantity over quality. The unrefined and rough nature of this exhibition creates a physical juxtaposition between itself and the primary 2×8 exhibit which displays select student projects.
