Illuminate: The Power of Dynamic Lighting for Project Design and Certifications
July 19, 2023 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm PDT
$10.00 – $35.00Whether you know nothing about lighting or you are your firms resource for it please join us at Herman Miller as we discuss advances in lighting and how it can significantly increase the health and comfort of everyone in your projects!
Meet leading experts within the lighting industry and learn how dynamic, tunable, and circadian lighting are related but not the same thing while we also highlight newer technologies such as full spectrum and BIOS lighting.
Lighting continues to grow in importance, complexity, and options so although this introduction ideal for healthcare whatever your specialty please join us for education and inspiration as good lighting improves all project typologies.
Moderator
Ken Downing, Light Build Design
Ken Downing is an architect working at Light Build Design as a lighting representative for industry leading manufacturers. After starting career as residential designer for clients including Getty & Shorenstein families his interest in sustainability led to panelized construction while his second decade in design was dedicated to working with the first lighting manufacturer in the world to develop acoustic lighting. His specialties further evolved into early support for Well and a focus encouraging healthier design through better lighting for all spaces.
Panelists
Sage Russell, LumenWerx + Healthwerx
Sage Russell graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with an architectural engineering degree and is a former lighting designer, educator, and published author of “The Architecture of Light” a textbook used to help educate university architecture and design students. He speaks nationally on topics of lighting design theory, application, and the evolution of design trends and technology. He also served on the scholarship committee for the IALD for 7 years and is currently the west coast sales manager for LumenWerx + Healthwerx.
Teal Brogden, HLB Lighting Design
Teal Brogden is senior principal and founding partner of HLB Lighting Design. As an avid listener, Teal enjoys the refinement that comes with vetting concepts in a collaborative team forum. Teal’s combined background in the arts and engineering puts her at ease with both the ephemeral and technical challenges inherent in lighting design. Her holistic design perspective has been honed and applied over three decades of industry leadership and iconic project work, making her an invaluable team member that elevates the aspirations of every project she is involved in.
Robert Soler, BIOS Lighting
Robert Soler has a Bachelor in Engineering, Masters in Architecture, and a Doctorate. He is a co-founder of BIOS Lighting and prior to his work at BIOS, his most prominent work was at Kennedy Space Center, where he was the Subject Matter Expert for NASA’s circadian lighting system to help synchronize astronauts to a 24-hour cycle on board the International Space Station. He received a fellowship from the National Science Foundation (NSF) and currently also serves on the light advisory committee for the International WELL Building Standard.
Learning Objectives:
- Explore comparison of warm dim and tunable lighting methods
- Discuss applications of and benefits from circadian lighting
- Introduction to full spectrum lighting + BIOS technologies
- Identify lighting preferences from Well building standards
