AIA|LA & LAUSD: Curriculum Workshop
March 11, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am PDT
FreeAIA|LA & LAUSD: Curriculum Workshop
Are you passionate about inspiring K-12 students to tomorrow’s architects, engineers and designers? Do you have ideas for how to make learning about architecture and design more compelling and aspirational? Then please joins us for this workshop at LAUSD Headquarters, which will serve as an interactive forum to ensure the LAUSD Architecture and Engineering curriculum is relevant and rigorous.
AGENDA:
• To discuss the curriculum and determine what should be deleted or added to ensure we have a strong series of classes that build one from the other.
• To hear proposed projects that could be included in the curriculum and implemented in classrooms or with our industry partners.
• To discuss next steps and explore how the LAUSD curriculum best feeds into the architecture curriculum of community colleges, etc
LAUSD offers 31 high school architecture and engineering courses and 6 middle school courses, such as Aerospace Engineering, Architect Design, CAD Design, Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Computer-Aided Drafting, Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Drafting. The California Department of Education has identified three levels of curriculum for all Career Technical Education Courses: Introductory, Concentrator, Capstone.
In groups we will review curriculum to make the following determinations:
• Which courses should be removed?
• Which courses need revision?
• Are the levels of courses correct and if not what should they be?
• What are the best sequences of courses?
