Learning Objectives:

Participants will hear from 2023 AIA gold medal award winner, Carol Ross Barney, FAIA, HASLA, about her experiences founding and leading a successful architectural practice since 1981, learning just how important collaboration and teamwork skills are for the success of large projects; demystifying our role as harmonizers and going against the idea of singular authorship as architects.

Participants will engage in afternoon breakout workshops and panel discussions led by experienced moderators, revolving around 7 important topics: Holistic Collaboration, Firm Ownership, Partnering with Developers Successfully, Negotiating and Advocacy, Finding your Voice: Design & Mission, and Leadership.

Participants will learn from Business Development leaders in the Los Angeles AEC community during a lively panel discussion revolving around what it takes to develop meaningful, strategic partnerships.

Participants will learn from and be inspired by Senior Vice President and Executive Project Director of the Obama Foundation, Lori Healey, as she chats with us about her unique career path, trials she’s faced along the way, and what advice she has for both seasoned and emerging professionals in the industry.

Participants will hear from a handful of design experts from across Los Angeles during our afternoon panel discussion, revolving around what it takes to make some of the most ambitious Museum and Civic projects in LA history a built reality.

Participants will learn about the process and journey embarked upon to create a dynamic co-working space, and lessons in teamwork and determination, from Omgivning and söm co-space founder and principal, Karin Liljegren, FAIA.
