Chair

Kevin Staten, AIA
Medical Planner, HOK

Kevin is a medical planner and licensed architect. He enjoys using his background in both residential design and commercial architecture to critically plan healthcare spaces from individual exam and operating rooms to department planning to full-scale master planning. He uses his expertise in BIM to coordinate the medical planning aspects of a project with all other project disciplines, including interior design and MEP coordination. He has his masters in architecture from the University of Kansas and is originally from St. Louis, Missouri. He relocated to Los Angeles in 2022 in an attempt to permanently skip miserable Midwest winters. Currently, Kevin works for HOK’s Los Angeles office that has recently relocated to the Arts District in Downtown LA.

Vice Chair

Ken Downing, AIA
Associate Consultant, Light Build Design

After starting career as residential designer for clients such as the Getty & Shorenstein families Ken’s interest in sustainability led to panelized construction while his second decade in design was dedicated to developing the world’s first acoustic lighting so he now focuses efforts locally on healthier design through better lighting. Ken has been a judge for the IES lighting awards three times including the 50th anniversary in 2023, he likes to help connect people, assist practitioners, inspire other designers, continually keep learning, and improve clients comfort. His passion for healthcare and education is deeply personal so he fully supports evidence-based design while encouraging team collaboration and exploration of the newest technologies.

Lydia Dillier, AIA
Senior Associate, Boulder Associates Architects
Lydia is an Architect with an insatiable curiosity about the world around her. Working in Healthcare design brings that curiosity to the forefront, learning about her clients, and the populations they serve. With undergraduate degrees in Sign Language and Biomedical Photography from The Rochester Institute of Technology she took those skills into her Masters program at the University of Oregon for Architecture. She has worked in both southern and northern California, returning to Los Angeles in 2017 and opening the LA Office for Boulder Associates in 2019. She has worked on all types of projects from small Clinics, Behavioral Health to inpatient towers. She works across project phases utilizing her technical skills as well as project management skills to delivery long lasting design solutions for her clients.
