COMMITTEE CHAIR BIOS
Chair
David Martinez is an architect in Los Angeles with a background in historic preservation and adaptive reuse. He is a transplant from Chicago and came to Los Angeles to earn a Master of Architecture from the University of Southern California. The rich architectural history of Southern California is what brought him to the area, and he continues to explore that interest both professionally and in his personal life.
Vice Chair
Justine Leong
Justine is a California registered architect with over 25 years’ experience in architecture and preservation. A native Angeleno, Justine’s dedication to Historic Preservation is embodied in her extensive professional career and volunteer work within the preservation community. She is fully committed to Historic Preservation and has worked with many clients in rehabilitating and adaptively reusing many significant landmarks in the region. She is active in and recently served on the Board of the Highland Park Heritage Trust.
Prior to living in Los Angeles, Justine served on the City of San Jose’s Historic Landmarks Commission from 2002-2006, and led their Design Review Committee. Justine is well-acquainted with preservation rewards and challenges in both the Bay Area and Los Angeles.
Past Chair
Gabriel Cervantes, AIA, LEED AP BD+C, is a skilled architect and project manager who regularly leads complex science and technology projects. He has served as project manager for the new $150 million Multidisciplinary Research Building at University of California, Riverside, set to open fall 2018; and the recently opened 44,000-square-foot Mark and Mary Stevens Neuroimaging and Informatics Institute at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. Cervantes is a member of the American Institute of Architects, Toastmasters International and the UCLA Alumni Association. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley, followed by a Masters of Architecture from the University of California, Los Angeles. Cervantes resides in Los Angeles.
